Retreating in Sacred Space: Taupō, New Zealand
This retreat takes place in New Zealand — a location Jared has returned to over the years for its natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and the heartfelt sangha that invites him to hold retreats here.
Taupō, New Zealand is a place of profound natural power and quiet majesty. Known as one of the world’s great geological wonders, Taupō was formed by a massive volcanic eruption over 26,000 years ago, leaving behind the vast and awe-inspiring Lake Taupō.
Taupō is a beloved destination for adventure seekers — home to mountain trails, world-class biking paths, and expansive lakeside walks. Yet beyond the thrill, there is a deep stillness here. A spaciousness that allows the heart to settle and the mind to rest.
The lake, the mountains, the ever-changing skies — they offer a daily invitation into wonder. Each season brings a new expression of beauty. There is something ancient and alive in this land. Something that opens you, quietly.
Our retreat is held at the Tauhara Centre, a peaceful residential venue just 10 minutes from the centre of town, yet surrounded by wide-open views of the lake and Mount Tauhara.
The land here feels remote, sacred, and deeply nourishing. You’ll find quiet walking paths, expansive grounds to wander, and a seven-sided meditation sanctuary open 24 hours a day.
This is a place to rest. To return. To let the land meet you.
Let beauty nourish your being, and spaciousness open your inner world.

None at all. Come as you are with an open mind and heart.

If you have any other requests or questions, get in touch after you have reserved your spot at the retreat.
Self-inquiry is asking yourself this question ‘who am I?’ Not to find some definition, but to see through the thoughts and beliefs, to what is always here, what is unchanging and unmoving. It is the focus of awareness back to awareness itself to find out the truth behind the veil of mind.
Satsang literally translates to ‘association with the truth’. What this means in practice is to sit with someone who has realised the truth of who we are. Someone who has by grace, woken up out of the trance of separate identity, or ego. By sitting with them, you can resonate with their transmission of silent presence, and see yourself in the clarity of the mirror.
There are no practices required for this retreat. When you put your intention on self-inquiry, your self-realization can be instantaneous. Jared does not prescribe practices, and instead supports true presence.
“Self-enquiry is the one, infallible means, the only direct one, to realize the unconditioned, absolute Being that you really are.” ~ Ramana Maharshi
